At the time of the Roman Empire, the roads were very important for many reasons, for example to facilitate commerce, the movement of people and the army, as well as the exchange of ideas!
Liguria was crossed by many roads, such as Iulia Augusta, Postumia, Aemilia Scauri and Aurelia. These joined up with other roads, that extended to the borders of the empire.
The result of this process, which also allowed for the unification of the language, the laws, the construction technology and the culture, is called romanization.
